Competition Time

CashIf you read the writer’s magazines, there are loads of writing and poetry competitions going on all the time. You could spend your writing career full time just entering them all. For this reason, I don’t often broadcast them.

But then, three unusual ones come along all at once, like buses, I felt I had to share them with you.

… and for good measure, I’d thought I’d throw a competition involving no writing in all of my own.

Competition 1: Write a short story in 140 characters

The Times Cheltenham is running a competition to write a story in just 140 characters on Twitter (well 135 when you include the #TCTC hashtag).

Don’t worry if you don’t know what a hashtag is, everything is explained on the competition page – details here …

and you can see loads of examples, including one I wrote, here …

By the way, the prize is a £140 Waterstones voucher – £1 a character.

Competition 2: The Sunday Times EFG Private Bank
Short Story Award

If £140 is not enough prize money to aim at, how does £25,000 sound?

To enter this competition, you have to be a published author already with an ISBN number.

I’m certainly going to have a crack at putting 7,000 words together.

Competition details here …

Competition 3: Best Blurb Books 2009 Photo Book Competition

Blurb Books are a brilliant way to put your favourite photos in a book and you can win $3000 by having a go. The categories of family, travel and pets are pretty all encompassing.

More details here …

Competition 4: The No Words Needed, Just Listen Competition

Finally, I am in conversation with Julia McCutchen in a free teleseminar at 8pm GMT on the 29th September. The subject will be writer’s block, why it happens and how to overcome it.

For thee lucky ‘attendees’, chosen at random, I will be giving away access to Blocks, the e-version of my writer’s unblocker programme. It’s worth £19,99 and comes with 6 guided MP3 visualisations.

You can sign up for the teleseminar here …

Finally I wonder if I could get less than 30 seconds of your time to answer a single question on this poll

What Is Stopping You Write Your Book?

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Happy Scribing and best of luck with your entries …
