Writing in Tune with the Moon

As we approach another Full Moon, I thought I’d share a tip for writers which I have found really useful … and that’s to synchronise your creative activity to the phase of the Moon.

Many a wine grower, and now many farmers, have been synching their crops to the phases of the Moon for aeons using biodynamics.

If you want to know more, have a look at this book In Tune With the Moon from Findhorn Press.

Women are of course more tuned to the Moon than many men and lunatics quite literally sometimes come out of the asylum more often when the Moon is full.

There are both exoteric and esoteric reasons why this all works which I go into more details on in my 1-2-1 mentoring and workshops and I may well come back to later in this series.

I’ve been synching my creative and marketing activity to the Moon for over a year now and can testify it seems to work – and it’s no harm or effort to try. If nothing else, the sight of the Moon at night reminds you to be measured in your approach and to ensure you think thing through in logical and measured manner.

What you do is this – each month work through your initial inspirations while the Moon is just past New. From the First Quarter to Full, conceptualise the ideas and how they might play out. From Full to Last Quarter, work on structure. Finally, from Last Quarter to New, work on the actual words.

Now obviously external pressures might make this a bit of a luxury but I think it works well for projects with a medium term time constraint – like a novel or a marketing initiative.

You can find out the current phase of the moon here

The proof is in the pudding and there’s no harm in trying – and I would really appreciate your feedback as to how you get on …

Interesting stuff, I was working in an IT support roll with police systems and the police would always be alert on full moons… support used to be usually more busy at that time of the lunar cycle.

  • Hello Tom

Great post! I’ve been trying to work with the Moon phases for some time now and won’t start a new project in the waning phases of the moon. The new moon is a great time for working up the ideas for a new project. After a time you find yourself naturally attuning to the moon phases.

Hi Rosemary – yes, I’ve been operating my marketing activities to the Moon phase to great results for a year now and always time my workshops around it

All you need to do is to look up, recognise that the Moon and the Sun are also consciousness … and get in tune and in sync and in communication with them …

I also use the phases of the moon (Southern Hemisphere) and yes, it is of particular use to writers. Thank you for your article. More please?

  • thebookwright

Is it true that in the Southern Hemisphere not only does bath water spin the other way but also so do your chakras ?

  • Very interesting. May explain why sometimes writing flows easily and feels hard at other times

  • Hi Tom

In Biodynamic Gardening you have little eddies superimposed on the main moon progression. Without going into too much astrological detail basically as the moon goes through the zodiac signs you get root, leaf, fruit and flower days which map to earth, water, fire and air (I’m not claiming to have got these in the right order ;) ) Have you noticed anything similar in your own consciousness / work?

  • thebookwright

Absolutely, the phases link to the four elements – these are mapped as the plane of ideas, the plane of concepts, the plane of structure and material plane where the conscious thought manifests into physical reality. Miss any out & you may have to go around the loop again, go with the Moon and it all happens seamlessly and effortlessly

  • This is interesting Tom and I’d be interested in discovering whether this would have am impact on my creativity not only for my baking but for blog writing too.
On a separate note I believe that maternity wards are usually aware of a full moon due to an increase in women going into labour at this time.

  • And when the lunatics come out of the asylum of course

  • As an Astrologer my work connects strongly to the Moon and the elements. On My site I have a Lunar Blog which acknowledges the Full and New Moon cycles which are energetically, the most powerful times to cleanse and bring in the new.Planetary cycles in general can have a powerful effect on ones thinking etc.
I would be happy to offer a link to your site as my work is well received and I feel we are on a similar wave length.

    Kind Regards,
    Stella
