A Vibe Rant Pearl is a true story.
This book tells you what it was like to be a black woman born in Britain, in the fifties, with roots in the West Indies. What it’s like not to know your roots, never knowing where you belonged. Always being told you don’t belong, always trying to fit in.
It tells of the racial hatred from adults who should have known better – the parents, the teachers, the Sunday school teachers and the dinner ladies – who all made life a living hell.
Elizabeth is brutally honest too about her trials and tribulations with her own family and her mother – and the loss of her daughter at a tender age.
Her writing style is raw and gritty.
As her editor, I have taken pains to leave much of the narrative and dialogue in its original form. It reminded me of J.D. Salinger’s anti-hero Holden Caulfield’s language in Catcher in the Rye.
As such, I make no apologies for any grammatical errors (they are largely intentional) and the numerous spelling errors, especially the one in the title.
