I love it when a new author with a new mission and a new purpose emerges kind of from nowhere.
I am especially pleased when the author makes the transition from non-fiction to fiction author.
Blogger, speaker and all round publishing guru, Joanna Penn – also known as @TheCreativePenn – has done just that with her new novel Pentecost.
This is an amazing achievement for a new writer and I can see a whole series of books and films emerging on the back of this debut novel.
Joanna’s blog is a real font of brilliant advice for authors (and publishers) and, by writing this book, she is also a testament to how to build your author platform and how to engage with the publishing world.
This interview gives great insight on how to go about it and how to get over your blocks to write a Blockbuster.

Wow, congratulations, Joanna! Joanna is an powerhouse. She’s blazing a trail in publishing in her own way, and is unflinchingly generous in sharing how she is doing it. Her podcasts are essential listening for me. It’s brilliant to see her getting good reviews for her debut novel.
That’s what’s so good about Joanna – she walks her talk !!
Congratulations to Joanna Penn on the launch of her first novel – I have already ordered my copy. I only discovered Joanna’s website by accident 6 months ago but I can wholeheartedly concur with one of the previous commentators – it is Joanna’s generosity in sharing what she has learnt along her pathway to be an author that has impressed me most, including all those superb podcasts. The information I have got from them has demolished all my own misgivings about trying to write a book and has advanced my own project by years. Great work Joanna!
Thanks Paul – Joanna is truly an inspiration for both aspiring and established authors …
Joanna is one of the top contributors in independent publishing. I wish her all the best with her launch! Nice interview Tom.
Anthony
Thanks Anthony – always happy to interview new talent – there are not many more deserving than Joanna. She puts in much more than she takes out and I know this book and the sequels will launch her as a international novelist of some repute.
Great interview Tom; like you I love to see people cross into fiction, and Joanna’s enthusiasm is very heart warming and inspiring.
